Plaque marking birthplace of Isadora Duncan - May 27, 1973

From The Collection of Mignon Garland

Sunday, 27 May 1973

Mignon Garland initiated and coordinated the project to place a bronze plaque the birth site of Isadora Duncan, 501 Taylor Street, San Francisco, with the support of Irma Duncan, Pulitzer Prize winning San Francisco columnist Herb Caen, and a local television station KGO. Irma Duncan spoke at the unveiling, as did Herb Caen. In attendance were some of Mignon's dancers, who danced on the sidewalk, and a first cousin of Isadora Duncan (their mothers were sisters), named George Cabaniss. Photos of the plaque, of Irma and Mignon, of Mignon and Herb Caen (with George Cabaniss in the background), and of Mignon at the unveiling event, plus quotes from Herb Caen's San Francisco Chronicle columns are shown. Look in Mignon Garland videos on the Archive for a video clip from this 1973 event.
