Video Collections

This video archive consists of videos that can be found online as well as videos that have been submitted specifically to, and are hosted by, the Duncan Archive. If you have any videos you would like to submit to the Archive, please contact us. We would be happy to answer your questions and any concerns you may have about video sharing.

The Duncan community strongly recommends that videos be used as reference material only. The learning of dances from video exclusively is discouraged. Guidance and coaching from an established master Duncan dance teacher is essential to the complete learning and effective transmission of Duncan dance repertory, thereby maintaining the highest possible quality and detailed beauty of Isadora’s timeless and classic art.

Throughout the video archive you will see many versions, variations and stagings of Duncan dances that will enrich your background knowledge and engage an ongoing discussion on the nature of sharing this rich legacy which, while quite specific, leaves creative space for the participant.

The viewing quality of some videos have been compromised by time but they are included here in an effort to present a wide selection of dancing from various time periods and generations. We view these as important documents and still viable as learning material.

For those of you who are knowledgeable and experienced Duncan dancers, these videos house a wealth of kinesthetic history that may be used to reflect upon and build your approach to the dances. If you are new to the repertoire, it is our hope that this resource inspires you to seek out a qualified Duncan educator to experience first hand how moving within the philosophy, technique and choreography of Isadora Duncan continues to be relevant to dancers today.
