The dance portrays Bacchae in a wine-sated Dionysian revel. While it falls short of the bawdy, riotous spirit of the ancient Greek Kordax or Sikinnis, it does contain some strange romping, with the dancer strewing ferns about the stage and whirling dizzily to a fall.

Isadora Duncan’s version of the Dionysian Bacchanalian dancers is quite tame in terms of all that is written of the Maenads’ who danced in a frenzy of adoration for life and Dionysius. Hortense Kooluris danced this frenzy quite beautifully as a solo. Vine leaves and such abandon.
