Chopin — Waltz in D flat major, Op. 70, No. 3 (Twirling / Tanagra /Trio Waltz /Maiden Waltz)
Chopin — Waltz in D flat major, Op. 70, No. 3
- Original choreography by: Isadora Duncan
- Other titles: Tanagra, Trio Waltz, Maiden Waltz
- Categories: lyrical dances
This dance for three incorporates some of the Tanagra Figure positions, and has the quality of a party...inviting, making an entrance, dancing together.
A dance of maiden flirtation, as if at a happy party together. This delightful dance can challenge the performers with its alternating turns done in a circle; the dancers press their arms and turn to face in or out of the circle in alternating moments, while notching around the circle. The dance continues with a waltzing invitational gesture, and then a fluid version of the fifth Tanagra Figure position. The three dancers take turns making the gesture, then join together, forming a exuberant flank that ebbs and pulls across the floor, with a sparkling shake for the foot. The final gesture finds the three dancers gathering each other about the waist, and exiting together, as if off to the next party.
