Schumann — Kinderszenen, Op. 15, No. 1 "Of Foreign Lands and People" (Skip Dance)

Notes

Christy Cornell-Pape

This dance is a lovely lyrical dance with a focus of slow, measured skipping. While most skipping dances seem to be at a fast pace, this one is slow and focused with a calm and serene demeanor. There are moments when the music almost seems to call for additional steps, but the dancer, with languor, settles so slowly into the next pose that the observer is drawn into the movement. The dance is a happy dance filled with touching moments with hands to the breast and hands to the face, which demonstrate a child-like and innocent love, both of the audience and of the dance itself.

Taught by Lois Flood.
